The Imo State Police Command has begun an investigation into a viral video showing a woman being violently assaulted by a group of men in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident involving Mrs. Agu Ndididamaka, 55, of Umuakaliukwu Kindred, Uboegbelu, Azaraubo, Emekuku. The attack, captured on video, has sparked public outrage across the state.
According to the police, preliminary findings indicate that the woman was attacked by six men identified as Osuji Chiazor, Agu Azubike, Njoku Onyedikachi, Njoku Eugene, Njoku Dikachi, Njoku Emmanuel, and Iwuala Chukwuma. The suspects allegedly assaulted her for cooperating with police officers who had earlier visited the community for investigative purposes.
Following the Commissioner’s directive, the X-Squad Unit of the command has commenced efforts to track down and arrest all those involved in the act. The police say the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
Describing the incident as “barbaric, inhuman, and totally unacceptable,” CP Danjuma warned that any form of jungle justice or intimidation against citizens assisting law enforcement would not be tolerated. He emphasized that the command remains committed to protecting the rights of all residents and ensuring that justice is served.
DSP Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer, reaffirmed the command’s determination to restore public confidence, urging members of the public to continue providing useful information to aid police investigations across the state.
