A social media post by Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwuobi, has sparked outrage among Nigerians after revealing the deplorable state of the hotel where the national team is currently lodged ahead of their upcoming world cup play off fixture against Gabon
The short clip, which went viral on Monday, showed unkempt surroundings, and poor hygiene conditions, prompting widespread condemnation from fans and football enthusiasts.
In the video, Iwuobi appeared visibly disappointed as he showed a peeling roof.
The post quickly drew reactions across social media platforms, with fans calling out the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for “embarrassing the country before the world.”
“It’s hard to believe this is where our national team is expected to prepare for crucial matches,” wrote Nnamdi Eke, a fan who expressed his anger to INNONEWS
“The Super Eagles are not just any football team—they represent over 200 million Nigerians. This level of neglect is shameful.”
Another fan, Callistus Ekezie, echoed similar sentiments, describing the situation as “a national disgrace.”
He said: “Those in charge of the team’s logistics need to be held accountable. This is far below the standard expected for a squad representing Nigeria on the international stage. The players deserve much better!”
Some called for a probe into how the Super Eagles were booked into such a substandard facility, especially ahead of vital qualifying matches.
