Jubilation and commendations filled the air on Saturday, December 6, 2025, as the Imo State Housing Corporation officially flagged off a comprehensive road rehabilitation exercise across Redemption Housing Estates Phases I, II and III in Avu and Obinze. The ceremony, which attracted hundreds of excited residents, marked the commencement of a collaborative infrastructure upgrade initiative undertaken in partnership with Estate Residents Associations to complement Governor Hope Uzodimma’s ongoing road revolution across the state.
The atmosphere at the flag-off event was one of palpable excitement as residents trooped out in large numbers to witness the historic moment. Many were seen singing, dancing, and chanting solidarity songs in appreciation of Governor Uzodimma’s developmental strides. The air of celebration reflected relief that improved road networks would bring to estates residents, particularly as the festive season approaches.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of Imo State Housing Corporation, Barr. Raymond Ucheoma, assured residents that the initiative was designed specifically to complement Governor Uzodimma’s massive road revolution in Imo State. He explained that the Corporation recognized the Governor’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure development and deemed it necessary to extend similar efforts to government estates under its jurisdiction. Barr. Ucheoma emphasized that the project would significantly enhance mobility, boost commercial activities, and improve the overall quality of life for residents in the areas.
Mrs. Chioma Okafor, a resident of Redemption Estate, expressed her profound gratitude for the intervention. “We have been praying for this day to come. Our estate roads have not been in a good condition especially during the rainy season. We are extremely grateful to Governor Hope Uzodimma for his vision and to the Housing Corporation for bringing this project to our doorstep. This is the kind of leadership we need,” she said with visible emotion.
Similarly, Mr. Emmanuel Obi, a trader around Redemption Estate Phase I, lauded the collaborative approach adopted for the project. “What excites me most is that this is not just a top-down project. The Imo Housing Corporation has carried us along every step of the way. Governor Uzodimma has shown that development is not just about building new roads but also maintaining and upgrading existing ones. This road rehabilitation will greatly ease transportation of goods and improve business activities in our estates. We are solidly behind the Governor,” he stated.
Another resident, Lolo Ngozi Opara, described the initiative as a Christmas gift to the communities. “As we prepare for the festive season, this road project is the best gift we could have asked for. It will make movement easier for us and our visitors during Christmas. Governor Uzodimma and the new Managing Director of Imo State Housing Corporation have proven that they have the interest of Imo people at heart. We pray for more strength and wisdom for them to continue this good work,” she remarked with enthusiasm.
Comrade Ikechukwu Anuforo, a youth leader in the estates, commended the Housing Corporation’s management for demonstrating proactive leadership. “Barr. Ucheoma and his team have shown that they understand the needs of residents. By partnering with us to execute this project, they have set a standard for how government agencies should relate with the people. Governor Uzodimma’s road revolution is visible everywhere in Imo State, and we are happy that it has now reached our estates. This is true governance, and we commend the Governor for appointing competent hands to manage our affairs,” he said.
As work officially commenced on the roads, residents expressed optimism that the project would be completed within the scheduled timeframe. The management of the Housing Corporation reiterated its commitment to delivering quality work and urged residents to continue supporting Governor Uzodimma’s administration. With the successful flag-off now behind them, the estates in Avu and Obinze look forward to improved road infrastructure that will enhance their daily lives and reinforce their confidence in the state government’s development agenda.
