The Imo State Police Command has commenced an intensive manhunt for gunmen who attacked motorists in Amala Autonomous Community, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state, leaving one person dead and several others abducted.
The attack took place on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at about 5:50 p.m., when the assailants reportedly emerged from a bush path and opened fire on unsuspecting road users.
The statement on the incident was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Okoye Henry, ANIPR.
Preliminary findings by the police indicated that the gunmen shot the driver of a Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number SMK 514 BD, inflicting fatal injuries on him at the scene.
The attackers were also said to have forcefully taken away the occupants of a Lexus RS300 with registration number FSD 334 XA before escaping into the adjoining forest.
Following the report, operatives of the Ngor Okpala Police Division quickly moved to the scene, secured the area and evacuated the injured driver to a hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, subsequently ordered a joint security operation involving the police, other security agencies and local vigilante groups to track the attackers and rescue the abducted victims.
Security operatives have since intensified bush-combing, search-and-rescue operations and suspect-tracking across the Amala forest axis and surrounding communities.
The Command assured residents that all necessary measures are being taken to restore safety in the area and appealed to members of the public to provide helpful information to the nearest police station or through the emergency line, 0803 477 3600.
