Electricity supply across the South-East has dropped in recent days due to challenges on the national grid, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC) has said.
In a statement on Tuesday signed by Emeka Ezeh, Head of Communications, EEDC attributed the decline in power availability to low system frequency caused by gas constraints affecting electricity generation companies nationwide.
The company explained that the situation forced the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to begin load shedding of available energy to stabilise the grid.
According to EEDC, the development has reduced the volume of electricity allocated to its network, directly impacting daily power supply to customers across the region.
The affected areas include locations served by EEDC’s subsidiary distribution companies—MainPower, TransPower, FirstPower, NewEra, and EastLand.
EEDC noted that the challenge is not isolated to its franchise area but is part of a broader industry-wide problem linked to gas supply shortages.
It added that key stakeholders in the electricity value chain are actively working to resolve the constraints and improve generation levels.
The distribution company assured customers that normal service would be restored once grid conditions improve and energy allocation increases.
EEDC apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused and appealed for patience and understanding as efforts continue to stabilise power supply.
