The federal government says it has resolved administrative bottlenecks delaying the payment of match bonuses to the Super Eagles at the ongoing AFCON 2025, assuring players of timely access to their entitlements.
Doris Uzoka-Anite, minister of state for finance, disclosed this in an update on Wednesday, noting that the government worked closely with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to fast-track the foreign exchange process for the national team’s bonuses.
The minister said all group-stage match bonuses have been fully released and have successfully passed through the required regulatory and approval stages.
According to her, a streamlined framework has now been adopted to ensure that future disbursements are faster, more predictable, and consistent with international best practices.
Uzoka-Anite explained that the government has also implemented a fast-track conversion mechanism to move the funds into foreign currency, in line with the players’ preferences.
She added that the final stage of the process — the transfer of funds to the players’ domiciliary accounts — is already underway.
“The final transfers to domiciliary accounts are currently in flight, and players can expect these funds to reflect starting today or tomorrow,” the minister said.
Uzoka-Anite stressed that the government’s priority remains the welfare of the players as they continue their campaign in the knockout stages of the tournament.
She said removing financial distractions would allow the team to remain focused and sustain the momentum generated by their performances so far at AFCON 2025.
“Our focus remains entirely on supporting the team’s welfare so they can maintain their incredible momentum,” she said, adding that the ultimate objective is to see the Super Eagles return home with the trophy.
