Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has approved the constitution of a broad-based committee to plan activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Imo State.
A Special Public Service Announcement issued by the state government and signed by State Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Public Orientation, Declan Emelumba disclosed that the committee will be formally inaugurated on Friday, January 23, at the Expanded Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Owerri, by noon.
The committee is chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Cosmas Iwu, and brings together key government officials, leaders of professional bodies, labour unions, religious organisations, academia and civil society.
Among those appointed is the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma, whose inclusion underscores the role of the media in shaping and documenting the state’s golden jubilee celebrations.
Other members include the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehi; the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Paul Obinatu; and the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba.
Also listed are commissioners overseeing finance, works, special duties, tourism, health, sports, education, and local government affairs, as well as the Head of Service, Chikodi Emenalo, mni.
The committee further comprises representatives of ALGON, the Owerri Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OCCIMA), Imo State University, organised labour, CAN, the Muslim community, women groups, former lawmakers, and Imo members of the National Assembly.
According to the announcement, attendance at the inauguration is mandatory for all members, signalling the importance the Uzodimma administration attaches to the Imo @50 celebrations.
