The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the ruling party described the reports as speculative, untrue and without any factual basis.
The statement, signed by Felix Morka, national publicity secretary of the APC, said the party was compelled to respond to the growing public attention being generated by the reports.
The APC said it had observed a growing media frenzy around the issue, noting that while earlier reports were subtle, they recently escalated with the mention of specific individuals as possible replacements for the vice president.
The party stressed that such narratives were being driven by rumour-peddlers and unnamed sources whose actions were aimed at sowing discord and confusion in the polity.
It urged media organisations to exercise restraint and avoid providing platforms for what it described as mischievous and misleading claims.
The APC further noted that under existing laws and electoral regulations, the ban on political activities remains in force, making the ongoing speculations premature and inappropriate.
According to the party, its current priority is to support President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in delivering the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
It said the Tinubu-led government remains focused on implementing bold reforms that are steadily transforming the economy, expanding prosperity and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
The party also cautioned ministers, senior government officials and party leaders against making statements that could, directly or indirectly, fuel unnecessary speculation, urging them to focus on diligent service and strengthening public confidence in the administration’s achievements.
