A Congratulatory Message To Ndimo By Dr Uzoma Obiyo On 50 Years Anniversary Of Imo State
My dear people of Imo State,
Today stands as a remarkable milestone in our collective journey, and I am deeply honoured to share in the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Imo State. Fifty years speaks not only to the passage of time, but to reflection, accountability, and a renewed commitment to the ideals that gave birth to our dear state. It is a moment to look back with gratitude and forward with clarity of purpose.
From the historic proclamation of February 3, 1976, Imo State has traversed a path marked by perseverance, enterprise, sacrifice, and faith in a better tomorrow. Our story is one of struggle and success, of setbacks and breakthroughs. Through political transitions, economic trials, and social change, the people of Imo have remained steadfast, drawing strength from their shared heritage and belief in progress. Our survival and growth are testimony to divine grace and the enduring resolve of our people.
It is appropriate at this juncture to pay tribute to the founding leaders and visionaries whose foresight laid the groundwork for Imo State. They accepted the burden of leadership at a critical time and discharged it with courage and discipline. From the stabilising influence of Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu to the transformational and people-oriented governance of the late Sam Mbakwe, these patriots set standards that continue to inspire. Their legacy, along with that of many unsung contributors, remains a compass for our collective conscience.
As we commemorate this golden jubilee, we must also recognise the present leadership steering the affairs of our state. I warmly congratulate the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his commitment to sustaining governance and providing direction at this defining moment in our history. Leadership is most tested in times of complexity, and the efforts of the current administration toward stability and continuity deserve acknowledgment as we chart the path ahead.
Indeed, our achievements over the past five decades give us ample reason for pride. However, celebration must be balanced with responsibility. As an Imo son and a partner in our state’s development, I firmly believe that our greatest accomplishments are still ahead. Imo State possesses immense human capital and untapped potential, capable of driving innovation, productivity, and inclusive prosperity, if we remain focused and united.
This fiftieth anniversary must therefore serve as more than a ceremonial landmark. It should be a solemn recommitment to unity across communities, generations, and political divides. It is a call to integrity, service, and shared ownership of our future. The burden of building Imo State does not fall on government alone; it rests equally on citizens at home and abroad, working together with a sense of duty and common destiny.
As we celebrate fifty years of statehood, let us renew our promise to the generations yet unborn. Let us strive to bequeath an Imo State that expands opportunities for its youth, guarantees dignity for its elders, and fosters peace, security, and prosperity across all communities.
I heartily congratulate every son and daughter of Imo State on this historic golden jubilee. This is our collective legacy and our defining moment. With faith in God and dedication to hard work, the years ahead will surely surpass the past in promise and achievement.
Happy Golden Jubilee, Imo State.
Ka Chineke gozie ala Imo.
Yours faithfully,
Chief Dr. Uzoma C Obiyo KSC
