There has been an outpouring of joy and celebration in Umukabia Community, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, following the commencement of construction of the community’s long-abandoned road linking them to Agbaja and Umuelemai in neighbouring communities in Isiala Mbano LGA.
Governor Hope Uzodimma recently awarded the contract for the construction of the road and immediately mobilised the contractors to the site.
Unable to contain their excitement and joy, members of the community shed tears of joy that at last God has answered their 50-year-old prayers through Gov. Hope Uzodimma.
They noted that since Imo State was created in 1976, they have been appealing to successive administrations for the construction of the long-abandoned Umukabia/Agbaja/Umuelemai road and described Uzodimma as a human messiah.
While pouring out their appreciation to the governor, the people pledged their support to the APC-led administration in the state.
Speaking during a surprise visit to the site on Wednesday, the Secretary to the Government of Imo State and illustrious son of Umukabia, Chief Cosmas Iwu, said his community would forever be indebted to the governor for that singular act of benevolence.
According to Chief Iwu, “As I visited the site earlier today, Wednesday, 18th February, I was impressed by the level of work on the ground and the commitment of the contractor to deliver quality work.”
He further reaffirmed that the road project was a testament to Governor Uzodimma’s unwavering dedication to improving the lives of Imo people, particularly those in rural communities, noting that the Umukabia/Agbaja/Umuelemai road project was a vital infrastructural development that will not only enhance connectivity but will also help the indigenes, who are basically farmers, to transport their agricultural produce to other places for sale.
He equally pointed out that the road, when completed, will also improve access to essential services, including healthcare and education.
Chief Iwu also said that he was confident that under Governor Uzodimma’s leadership, the road project, being handled by an indigenous construction company, CODUC, will be completed to the highest standards.
The SGI said the road, when completed, will also have a profound impact on the socio-economic development of Umukabia, Agbaja and Umuelemai communities and therefore advised the youths and other stakeholders in the area to give the contractor maximum support to ensure the successful completion of the road project within the stipulated time frame.
Receiving the SGI, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Coduc Construction Company, Engr. Chinedu Chukwuonye, expressed gratitude to Governor Hope Uzodimma for awarding the contract for the construction of the road to his company and assured the government that he would deliver quality work within the stipulated time.
