Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, yesterday declared that the institutional and economic reforms embarked upon by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the advent of his administration are now yielding fruits and transforming Nigeria in all sectors.
He said the fruits of the reforms are not only manifest but have swiftly halted Nigeria’s drift towards economic and social disintegration.
Uzodimma spoke at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, at the start of the PGF–Renewed Hope Ambassadors Strategic Summit.
He noted that a dispassionate and factual comparative analysis between May 29, 2023, when Tinubu assumed office, and now clearly shows that his reforms are massively manifest in all key sectors in Nigeria, including power, macroeconomics, infrastructure and social services.
According to him, “In May 2023, our foreign reserves stood at 32 billion US dollars, but by February this year, it was 49 billion US dollars. Headline inflation was 22.4%, food inflation 24.6% in May 2023, but by December 2025, they went down to 15.15% and 10.84%, respectively. The same statistics are reflected in oil production, national minimum wage, and the amount distributed at the Federation Allocation Committee,” he submitted.
Uzodimma, who is the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, also listed the reforms in the power sector, which now allow states to generate and distribute power, as one of the key reforms that have yielded economic fruits for Nigerians.
He said, contrary to misinformation and misrepresentation by some mischievous Nigerians, the tax reforms are perhaps a far-reaching policy that benefits the poor and small businesses while at the same time stimulating job creation among companies.
“For the first time, Nigeria has a unified, modern, digitally administered tax system that protects the vulnerable, incentivises enterprise and aligns with global standards,” he said.
He commended Tinubu’s aggressive and accelerated infrastructure delivery, which has seen massive road reconstruction in all six political zones and the consolidation of rail modernisation projects, saying the president has chosen sustainability over sentiments.
The Imo governor also pointed to the establishment of the student loan fund as another way that the APC administration under Tinubu has directly impacted Nigerians, and disclosed that more than 1.5 million students have benefited from the N184 billion interest-free loan so far disbursed.
He announced that the summit was primarily convened to fashion ways of reaching Nigerians with the right and appropriate information concerning the fruits of the reforms to counter the contrary opinions of the opposition.
He regretted that despite the manifest gains recorded by the administration, there still exists a disconnect between the macro-level outcomes and the grassroots reality as a result of misinformation.
“Cynicism remains because the communication of reform outcomes has not matched the pace of the reforms themselves. The opposition has exploited this gap with relentless propaganda. The problem is not policy failure. The problem is a communication failure,” he lamented.
He said the task before the summit was to fashion ways of strengthening the mechanism of APC communication at strategic levels as well as push for the consolidation of any messaging system it finally adopts.
While advocating a clear assignment for every structure in the party, Uzodimma, who is the Chairman of Renewed Hope Ambassadors, however recommended the harmonisation of support groups for Tinubu to avoid a situation where different structures are “singing from different hymn sheets.”
Uzodimma assured Tinubu that the progressive governors were determined to ensure his re-election through a free and fair contest, with the fruits of his reforms as the unique selling point.
