Governor Chukwuma Soludo has directed all political appointees in Anambra State to hand over their positions with immediate effect, in a move that signals a major administrative shake-up.

The directive was contained in an official memo issued by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, dated March 18, 2026, and addressed to all political appointees.

The document, referenced SSG/PS/1/T2/23, instructed affected officials to transfer responsibilities to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

“I am directed to inform all political appointees to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior Civil Servant in the various MDAs on or before the close of work today, 18th March, 2026, until a new cabinet is constituted,” the memo stated.

The directive effectively puts an end to the current structure of political leadership across MDAs, pending the formation of a new cabinet by the governor.

In addition, all first-term cabinet members have been scheduled to meet with the governor on Monday, March 23, 2026.

The meeting is expected to hold at the ANSEC Chambers by 10:00 a.m. prompt, according to the official communication.

The memo was signed by Dr. Nwabufo Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, who conveyed the directive on behalf of the state government.
