*Ihedioha Under Pressure*

There are strong indications that Chairman of Imo State Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Sam Ohiri, may be shown the exit door any moment from now.

This as reports emerged at the weekend that there is pressure on the State Governor, Hon.Emeka Ihedioha to remove Ohiri as Chairman of the Council of Monarchs and replace him with Eze Cletus Illomuanya.

This has set the stage for a classic royal rumble

This newspaper was informed that the Governor is yet to bulge to such pressure.

Illomuanya is a long time ally of the Governor. The monarch had campaigned for his victory during the last elections.

Illomuanya has swiftly moved into the 600 man Traditional Rulers  Council dividing their ranks and drumming support for his latest ambition to be their Head.

The over 600 member traditional institution in the State have been decimated as a fierce power play between Eze Ohiri and Eze Ilomunaya have intensified and taken a new dimension.

Ihedioha had come under intense pressure last week from some traditional Rulers from a particular zone angling for Ohiri’s job

Eze Cletus Illomuanya, a former Chairman of the Council had also led some traditional Rulers to see the Governor last week.

Their demand was clear to Ihedioha – Ohiri must leave.

While the Governor is said not to have concluded on his next line of action, there is pressure on him to show Ohiri the exit door.

This newspaper observed that one of the restraining factors stopping Ohiri’s removal at the moment is the issue of tenure.

A source said ” Eze Ohiri is yet to serve out his tenure. This Government may not want to be dragged into such illegality. Not so early in the day.

“All their actions have been backed by the law.

” At the same time, Eze Ilomunaya was unjustly removed by then Governor Okorocha.

“He was yet to serve out his tenure when Okorocha kicked him out and installed Ohiri as Chairman of the Council.

” Outside the ambit of the law, I wonder how the Governor will be comfortable with a Chairman that served the former adminstration.
