Nlemigbo Caretaker Blows Hot
The drama in the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Imo State, continued on Sunday, when the Senator Rochas Okorocha backed Daniel Nwafor led faction, met in Owerri, and took far reaching decisions over the Okigwe senate bye election.
Nwafor rejected in entirety the consensus candidate which a select committee of the Nlemigbo led caretaker committee had chosen.
It also choose Direct Primary to elect the party’s flagbearer for Okigwe senate bye election, and passed a vote of confidence on President Muhammadu Buhari.
Newspaper reports had claimed that Frank Ibezim, emerged consensus candidate of the party for the October 31st, 2020 bye election.
Before the meeting, the Nwafor faction had called on aspirants in the party, vying for Okigwe senate bye election to purchase Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms at the Party’s national Secretariat, in Abuja, and not from the Nlemigbo Caretaker committee.
It had also insisted that it is the rightful channel to hold the Party’s primary to elect a candidate for the party for the on the grounds that it is the duly elected State executives of the party.
The meeting was attended by mainly loyalists of former Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, including his officials when he presided the State as Governor for eight years.
The Caretaker Committee of the party led by Marcellinus Nlemigbo, Sunday, however kicked against the meeting.
A statement by media spokesman of the party, Cajethan Duke, described the meeting as a ‘frivolous gathering”
He wrote ” That the absence of all notable and critical stakeholders of the party in the State, including but not limited to all the Imo North Senatorial aspirants, is an indication that such frivolous gathering was by all means worthless and of no value”
As regards the Okigwe senate bye election, the caretaker committee stated that the meeting “was a post Covid 19 get together meeting of former appointees of former Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha and political associates of his ersthwhile Chief of Staff, and son in law, Uche Nwosu.
