ADVERTORIAL: Those Who Must Not Succeed Governor Uzodimma, By Owerri Zone Watchdog

by innonews

The Owerri Zone Watchdog firmly outlines its position on selecting a suitable successor to Governor Hope Uzodimma. This decision must emphasize continuity, competence, and loyalty to sustain the progress achieved under his leadership.

While Governor Uzodimma has rightly stated that he does not wish to be distracted, focusing instead on his remaining three years in office, we believe offering useful suggestions at this stage is critical. The groundwork for Imo State’s future should be laid with foresight and care.

We urge the governor not to be influenced by voices creating unnecessary conflict over the Charter of Equity. With the 2027 elections still far away, these distractions only undermine governance. The Uzodimma administration must remain focused on delivering results to its people.

Owerri Zone Watchdog insists that the governor’s successor must be someone deeply rooted in his political journey—an individual who has been with him from the start, not opportunistic newcomers or those who joined him after he assumed office. Such individuals lack the experience and commitment required to carry forward Uzodimma’s vision for the state.

It is also essential to reject individuals associated with Rochas Okorocha’s divisive tenure as governor. Their track record disqualifies them from leading Imo State and jeopardizes the gains made under Uzodimma’s administration.

We believe successful transitions often involve trusted allies. A notable example is Ebonyi State, where Governor Dave Umahi’s loyalist, Francis Nwifuru, seamlessly took over leadership, aligning with Umahi’s vision. Uzodimma should adopt a similar approach to ensure continuity.

Owerri Zone Watchdog strongly advocates that a successor from Owerri Zone, within the governor’s political family, be considered. While we respect his position that discussions on succession are premature, it is important to voice our expectations early to ensure inclusivity and fairness.

The so-called “Charter of Equity” must not overshadow the need for competence and alignment with Uzodimma’s legacy. The next governor should possess a deep understanding of the policies and frameworks guiding the current administration.

Governor Uzodimma has a chance to make history by securing a loyal successor who will continue his legacy. This choice must be someone who embodies the principles of good governance and is capable of driving Imo State to greater heights.

We trust that Governor Uzodimma will prioritize loyalty, competence, and alignment with his vision in this critical decision, ensuring that the progress achieved under his leadership is not undone.

Signed,

**John Ucheoma**
