The All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA in Imo State has said Governorship aspirants and all those seeking elective positions on the party’s paltform will sign a legal document that forbid them from decamping to another party when they emerge victorious.
The move is aimed at forestalling a scenario where candidates who win elections abandon the party thereafter.
Chairman of APGA in Imo State, Barr. Peter Ezeobi who announced the procedure said the party is avoiding a repeat of what Governor Rochas Okorocha did in 2011.
The Governor had left APGA for the APC in 2014.
Ezeobi reiterated his stand to maintain a transparent primaries that will produce the governorship candidate of the party for the 2019 election.
The Chairman allayed the fears of those wishing to come into the party from other political parties with ambition for any elective position, saying he would resign than allowing imposition of candidates.
He said, “I have rejected mouth watering offers, including those with promises of ministerial appointments. I will resign than allowing imposition or unfair treatment to any aspirant irrespective of when he joined the party and where he came from. I must give equal chances to all aspirants through which the best-candidate who will win the election emerges”.
The party chairman who spoke when APGA members in Owerri Municipal Council visited him advised not to hold meeting of the party in the residence of any aspirant or any leader but only at the party office, adding that it will isolate them from aspirants and reduce any chances of undue influences that will create impression of interest in a particular aspirant against another.
