The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), the leading socio-cultural youth organization of the Igbo nation, has accused prominent South-East politicians of orchestrating a plot to destabilize the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the zone by forcefully removing its zonal leadership.
In a statement made available to this newspapoer and signed by Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, President General of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, and Comrade Ukpabi Michael Authority, National Publicity Secretary. issued after an emergency meeting on July 30, the group alleged that Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives; Hon. Emeka Nwajiuba, former Minister of State for Education; Hon. Uche Onyeaguocha; and ADC chieftain, Chief Ralph Nwosu, are behind a scheme to sack the incumbent ADC National Vice Chairman (South-East), Comrade Chilos Godsent.
“If the reported plot to substitute Comrade Chilos Godsent with Mr. Bon Unachukwu as ADC National Vice Chairman South-East holds truth, this indicates that Raph Nwosu, Emeka Ihedioha, Uche Onyeaguocha, and Emeka Nwajuba have forged a new political alliance, thereby jeopardizing Ndigbo’s interests in the 2027 presidential election for personal political advantages,” the OYC warned.
Describing the plan as a betrayal of internal party democracy, the group condemned the alleged meeting in Abuja where decisions were purportedly made without consultation with the party’s grassroots.
“The conspiracy and evil decision to remove Comrade Chilos Godsent as the bonafide ADC National Vice Chairman, South-East, following ‘a Tea Cup’ meeting in Abuja, is undemocratic and unacceptable by the over ten million Nigerian youths,” it said.
The youth council warned that any attempt to enforce such a change would be met with massive resistance, stating that it would signal a declaration of war against the political advancement of Igbo youths.
“The ADC must respect and uphold internal party democratic processes to avoid losing relevance, especially among the young generation of Igbo extraction in Igboland,” the statement added.
OYC also took aim at what it termed a cabal of recycled politicians working to hijack party structures across the zone.
“This class of men have been recycling themselves in political power for 24 years, with Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha serving in the House of Representatives and as Deputy Speaker for 12 years without yielding significant results for Ndigbo. Hon. Emeka Nwajuba has held power for 20 years, Uche Onyeaguocha since 2003, and Bon Unachukwu has been roaming the corridors of power since 2003. Yet they quickly sabotage the growth of Igbo youths,” the statement read.
The group cautioned ADC leaders not to fall into the trap of alienating the region’s youth by allowing the plot to succeed.
“The socio-political scourge of consigning the young Igbo generation to the periphery of politics and impeding their advancement in Igboland will be resolutely opposed by millions of Igbo youths and progressive-minded people across the South-East,” the council insisted.
According to the group, any attempt to forcefully oust Chilos Godsent would not only fracture the party internally but would provoke wider consequences in the region.
“In the event that this political injustice against Comrade Chilos Godsent and Igbo youths prevails, ADC will have drawn a long-term political battle line, sparking chaos with young Igbo political liberators and groups in Igboland,” it declared.
The group vowed to mobilize against the party should the move go ahead unchecked.
“If ADC indulges in unchecked impunity and elitist misbehavior, it will lead us to proscribe ADC in South-East by every conceivable means,” the statement warned.
