Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has vowed to crush all elements behind the incessant killings and violence ravaging parts of the state, declaring that “wicked politicians” are actively working to sabotage peace efforts for their selfish gains.
According to a statement signed by Oguwike Nwachuku, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Uzodimma made the remarks on Sunday during a Mass at the Government House Chapel, following the recent gruesome killing of innocent residents in Arondizuogu, Ideato North Local Government Area, by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
He expressed deep anger and sorrow over the tragic incident, blaming it on politically motivated conspiracies.
“There are wicked politicians hell-bent on frustrating the efforts of government to restore peace and security in Imo State. They pretend to support the administration but are deeply involved in conspiracies that have led to the deaths of our people.”Uzodimma said.
Recalling a chilling incident that occurred two years ago, the governor said a local government chairman was beheaded in Ideato North. He revealed that security operatives have now arrested the perpetrator, who confessed to the crime and implicated several individuals he was working for.
“Some of those mentioned have already been invited by the police and are currently undergoing interrogation. Many more will be invited, and this government will stop at nothing to bring everyone involved to justice.”Uzodimma disclosed.
The visibly agitated governor warned that those using political cover to sow violence in the state would soon face the full weight of the law.
“It is not enough for people to hang around me pretending to be loyal while secretly eliminating innocent lives and trying to destabilize the government,” he thundered.
As part of efforts to strengthen grassroots security, Uzodimma announced that within two weeks, all communities in Imo will have fully operational and government-funded vigilance groups. These outfits, he said, will be equipped with the necessary logistics to support their activities.
He urged citizens to support the initiative, stressing that collective effort is vital to overcoming insecurity.
“I call on everyone to cooperate with government’s measures. Those who frustrate our intentions for political reasons must desist immediately—it won’t end well for them,” he warned.
