The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Vice Chairman for Okigwe Zone, Chief Chuks Ajaelu, JP, on Friday led a high-powered delegation of zonal leaders, stakeholders, and members of the State Working Committee (SWC) on a solidarity visit to the Imo State Chairman of the party, Rt. Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, at the party’s state secretariat in Owerri.
The meeting, described by party officials as both strategic and symbolic, was attended by the entire Okigwe Zonal Executive, six LGA party chairmen, six women leaders, six youth leaders, chairmanship candidates of the party in the last council elections, and other notable stakeholders from across the zone.
Ajaelu said the visit was aimed at reaffirming Okigwe zone’s unwavering loyalty and total commitment to the progress, unity, and stability of the PDP under Nwachukwu’s leadership.
He lauded the state chairman’s inclusive and mature leadership style, noting that he had within a short period begun rebuilding trust and repositioning the party for victory in future elections.
He commended Nwachukwu for his proactive steps in strengthening the party structure and reawakening grassroots participation.
According to him, “The PDP in Imo is gradually returning to its winning ways under a leadership that listens, unites, and inspires confidence.”
Ajaelu further applauded the National Secretary of the PDP and leader of the party in the state, Distinguished Senator Samuel Anyanwu (Samdaddy), describing him as an exceptional leader whose steadfast support and vision have sustained the growth and advancement of the party across Imo State.
Members of the State Working Committee (SWC) from Okigwe zone who joined the visit included the State Auditor, Hon. Damian Ogu, and the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Lancelot Obiaku, who both expressed optimism that the renewed synergy between the state and zonal leadership would strengthen the PDP’s hold ahead of coming elections.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Ajaelu described the meeting as “timely and productive,” emphasizing that it demonstrated a shared sense of purpose among PDP leaders and members.
“We came to assure the chairman that Okigwe zone is fully behind him. His leadership has brought hope and direction,” he said.
He announced that Okigwe zone would soon host a civic reception in honour of Nwachukwu to celebrate his emergence as state chairman and reaffirm the zone’s total support for his leadership. He noted that the event would also serve as a rallying point to further unite the PDP family in the state.
In his response, Nwachukwu thanked Ajaelu and the Okigwe delegation for their show of solidarity, describing their visit as “a strong statement of unity and loyalty.” He assured that under his watch, the PDP would be guided by fairness, equity, and inclusiveness.
He pledged to ensure that every zone, including Okigwe, would have a voice in party affairs, adding that his focus is to restore the PDP’s strength and integrity as the true voice of Imo people.
