Introducing a new era in the journalism profession in Imo State, the burning desire to place the state and the South East in the global online community and the need to satisfy the exceptional yearning for online news and events by Imolites in diaspora were some factors that motivated the establishment of online newspaper, INNONEWS.COM.NG.
This was disclosed by Mr. Innocent Onyeukwu, Publisher/Editor-in- Chief, INNONEWS.COM.NG at the official unveiling of the online news outfit in Owerri, Friday.
“Today, we have successfully filled the gap as we have reached thousands of our people who hit our news website daily for the latest news from the eastern heartland. We have effectively informed the people of Imo State and beyond of events in the state. Our coverage is not restricted to Imo State alone, as we also cover the entire South East region and the nation at large” he said
Onyeukwu said the outfit since it was established has grown in leaps and bounds.
“As at March 2017, we reached more than 200,000 online readers, 75% of them scattered in more than 27 countries notably the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Ghana and little known Guatemala. This shows our strength and limitless capacity to get your news beyond the shores of our country.
“We are not done yet. We have just started. We are moving on with great strength as we have introduced several measures that will ensure we reach the unreached. With our timely news updates which is outstanding and in conformity with ethics of journalism, we offer fresh, undiluted news on a wide range of issues” he stated
“Online journalism has come to stay in Imo State. And I am glad we are the pioneer pacesetters. We will not relent as we are inspired by the vision to add value to the face of journalism in our dear State. Together and with your support, we shall succeed.
“As we converge here today, we call for your support and encouragement as we unveil this news website which signifies the opening a new chapter in journalism in Imo State and the nation”the publisher stated.
The unveiling ceremony was unveiled by Imo State Commissioner of Information, Nnamdi Obiareri and was witnessed by Senator Representing Owerri Zone, Senator Samuel Anyanwu representing Owerri zone, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon.Emeka Ihedioha,former Mayor of Owerri, Chief Gibson Njemanze, former Majority Leader, Imo State House of Assembly, Hon.Lugard Osuji, former Imo State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Chief Fidel Onyeneke, Chief Chuks Ajaelu, Chief Ngozi Ogbu, editors, media practitioners and many others.
