The Catholic Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (CAMPAN), Ahiara Diocese, has been thrown into mourning following the death of its vice president, Anthony Okoroigwe.
The association announced his passing in a statement released on Sunday and signed by its President, Ben Osuagwu, describing Okoroigwe’s death as a painful loss to the diocesan media community and the wider Church.
Okoroigwe was a founding member of CAMPAN during the era of the old Owerri Diocese, which later became the Archdiocese of Owerri, and played a key role in the growth of Catholic media practice in the region.
According to the statement, he also contributed significantly to the establishment of CAMPAN in Ahiara Diocese, where he served as vice president until his death.
A professional journalist, Okoroigwe worked in the News and Current Affairs Department of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), where he was known for his dedication to duty, fairness, and commitment to ethical journalism.
CAMPAN described him as jovial, steadfast, and deeply committed to justice, noting that these qualities defined both his professional and personal life.
Born into an Anglican family, Okoroigwe later embraced the Catholic faith and raised his family as devoted Catholics, becoming an active member of several Church sodalities.
The association said he was a consistent presence in Church activities and never lacked in service to the faith and the media apostolate.
“Though his death is deeply painful, we take consolation that it is a heavenly gain,” the statement read, while praying for God’s comfort for his wife, children, the Okoroigwe family, Eziama Oparanadim Parish, and members of CAMPAN.
