The Imo State Government has said the state will earn increased revenue following the commencement of gas export from the Anoh Gas Processing Plant operated by Seplat Energy in Ohaji/Egbema.
The government described the development as a major milestone that will positively impact Imo’s economy, energy supply and industrial growth.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Gas Development, Barr. Emeka Mgbudem, disclosed that the Anoh plant has commenced export of 50 million standard cubic feet (mscf) of gas to Indorama.
He explained that the facility has a total capacity of 300mscf, adding that an additional 250mscf of gas is expected to be exported once ongoing commercial negotiations between Oando and the Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) are concluded.
According to the Commissioner, the commencement of gas export will significantly boost Imo State’s 13 per cent derivation revenue, with positive implications for government finances and development at the grassroots.
Mgbudem said the project will also improve access to energy for power generation and serve as a catalyst for industrialisation within the state.
He further revealed that gas processing at the plant has triggered condensate production, which is expected to pave the way for the establishment of a refinery in the area.
The Commissioner noted that several Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) companies are already constructing Mother Stations around the facility, a move he said will create jobs and increase economic activities.
Beyond revenue and jobs, Mgbudem said the Anoh plant will enhance environmental sustainability, announcing that it will begin producing Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) within the next month to support clean cooking in homes.
He stressed that the facility operates with zero gas flaring and processes flare gas from Seplat’s Ohaji production facility, aligning with Nigeria’s goal of ending routine gas flaring by 2030.
Located within the Orashi Special Energy Zone, the Anoh Gas Processing Plant is already attracting investors and industries, reinforcing the Imo State Government’s drive to position the state as a major energy and industrial hub.
