There are strong indications that Governor Rochas Okorocha’s successor may join another political party before the 1st quarter of next year.
The Governor last week announced that he will not seek for the office of the President or Senate when he leaves office in 2019. This has sent clear signals that he will focus his energy on delivering his chosen successor in the 2019 governorship election in the State.
A top source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the Governor will remain in the APC while the chosen successor may join another political party.
The source said ” The Governor will remain in the APC. He is a founding member of the party and he will not abandon it. His successor will encounter some problems scaling through the hurdles to pick the party’s governorship ticket considering the fierce level of opposition in Imo APC orchestrated by Araraume”
” If you watch carefully, there is a political party that is coming up strongly in the State not APGA or the PDP. That party could be a veritable platform for the successor to run in 2019″
“That party will go into a strategic alliance with the APC to ensure the President’s victory is assured and that governorship candidate” he said
However, these permutations is based on the outcome of the APC congresses which is expected to come up between March and April 2019.
” The outcome of the APC Congresses will determine a lot. This above option becomes attractive only if the soul of the party fall in the hands of the opposition forces in the party”
“But if it does not and remain intact with the Governor and his camp, there may be no need for this political option” the source concluded.
