In line with this global framework, the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has approved the appointment of Barr. Chinenyenwa Blessing Owuamalam as Special Adviser (SA) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in a move aimed at strengthening the state’s development agenda.
The appointment was conveyed in an official letter dated April 10, 2026, issued by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government. According to the document, Owuamalam’s appointment took effect from April 9, 2026.
The letter, signed by Chief Cosmas Iwu, Secretary to the Government of Imo State, stated that the governor approved the appointment in recognition of Barr. Owuamalam’s capacity to drive policies and programmes aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Owuamalam will be responsible for advising the governor on strategies to advance the SDGs across critical sectors, including health, education, poverty reduction, gender equality, and environmental sustainability.
Her role is also expected to involve coordinating partnerships with development agencies, civil society organisations, and the private sector to accelerate progress on the global goals within the state.
The appointment underscores the Uzodimma administration’s continued commitment to integrating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into its governance framework, with a focus on inclusive growth and improved quality of life for residents.
The position of Special Adviser on SDGs has become increasingly strategic as subnational governments intensify efforts to localise the global development agenda and meet internationally agreed targets by 2030.
With her new role, Owuamalam is expected to play a key part in aligning Imo State’s policies with global best practices while ensuring measurable impact at the grassroots level.
The government, in the letter, congratulated the appointee and expressed confidence in her ability to deliver on the mandate.
The appointee, Chinenyenwa Blessing Owuamalam, a renowned first-class graduate, is a highly accomplished lawyer with a strong background in the energy, policy, government, and financial sectors, with fourteen years post-call at the Nigerian Bar. She is a renowned expert in providing strategic counsel and legal analysis to Chief Executive Officers and high-profile clients, including individuals and government agencies.
Barr. Owuamalam is a renowned SDGs advocate and holds a Master’s degree in Oil and Gas Law with Distinction from the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom. She previously worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria Headquarters, Abuja.
A renowned humanitarian and girl-child activist, Chinenyenwa is an active member of various organisations, including the International Bar Association (IBA), the African Bar Association (ABA), the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb), United Kingdom, and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).
