Owerri Zone United: Strengthening The Bonds, Falling Not Into Temptations (2)

By Nze James Chinonyerem

As Owerri Zone continues to strategize, consult, and mobilize, it is equally important to stay vigilant — to look through the windows and to the sky for those mischievous actors who fly politically divisive kites. Granted, every son and daughter of Owerri Zone who qualifies to run for the governorship has the right to do so. Yet patriotism must remain the watchword. Thankfully, we have patriotic sons and daughters whose interest lies in leading the people’s movement to ensure that both the letter and spirit of the Charter of Equity are protected and realized. Their ambition aligns with the people’s: to produce a governor of Owerri Zone extraction. It is a genuine, collective ambition.

On this note, we must “shine our eyes” to detect those smooth-talking political salesmen who spin webs to ensnare great sons and daughters into the race, solely to sow confusion in the zone. These known and unknown operators speak with oily voices. Like Herod, they love the sound of their own words, but the falsity of their mission is clear — they act neither in good taste nor in good faith. They serve as agents of division, seeking to widen cracks and scatter the gains patriotic sons and daughters have made in forging Owerri Zone into a strong, indivisible force.

No doubt, the unity of purpose and strong bonds now seen in Owerri Zone defy earlier permutations by anti-Owerri elements who claimed the zone could never gather under one canopy. Now that this narrative has been exposed as a lie, these sly and slippery characters have slipped into fevered modes, convulsing. To the jobbers, take this message home: Owerri Zone is wiser now. No false prescription will be accepted as treatment for our new vision. Nde Owerri Zone have tasted the bitter pill. We can now smell it — and avoid it — from miles away.

We will stay awake and alert to checkmate these elements bent on causing confusion among us — those who dress in borrowed robes and pontificate with the tongue of Ahithophel. We must not forget those within and outside the zone who, with regal arrogance, openly tell Nde Owerri that unless we field this or that candidate, we should forget the governorship in 2027. This group of hectoring voices are enemies of the zone in particular and the state in general. They speak for the comfort of their pockets, not for us or with us.

Our leaders should remain focused. Their labors are of historic heroism. History will remember them for their selfless service to the people. They will surely be enrolled in the hallowed halls of fame in Owerri Zone and across the entire state. Their labor will not be in vain. Therefore, despite distractions, they must, as a matter of necessity, adopt careful reasoning, historical awareness, and moral consistency. These are essential to sustain our existing unity, lessen rancor, and keep our eyes on the ball until we score the much-needed goal.

Let them continue to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, inclusive political participation, and collaboration. As they do so, they should keep their eyes and ears open to detect the renewed onslaughts of those masquerading as friends, so we do not fall into old temptations.
