Owerri Set For Literary Celebration As Award Winning Author, E.T. Okere Unveils 20th Book

Owerri, the Imo State capital, will on Wednesday host a major literary gathering as veteran journalist and award-winning author, E.T. Okere, unveils his 20th book titled Once Upon A Day.

The event, organised by the Owerri Literary Ensemble, is also designed to celebrate the birthday anniversary of the accomplished writer whose decades-long contribution to journalism and literature has earned him wide recognition.

According to the organisers, the ceremony will take place on April 29, 2026, at Rock View Hotel, Owerri, beginning at 11:00 a.m. prompt, with dignitaries from government, traditional institutions, media and the literary community expected in attendance.

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, is billed as the Special Guest of Honour, underscoring the significance of the occasion and the state government’s interest in intellectual and cultural development.

Former Imo State Governor, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, will serve as the Chief Host, while the Royal Father of the Day is HRH Eze Dr. Eme Njoku.

Okere is widely regarded as one of the notable literary voices from the South-East, with a publishing career that spans several decades. His earlier milestones include recognition as the 1991 ANA Award winner, alongside a long list of literary works released over the years.

The unveiling of Once Upon A Day marks another landmark in his career, bringing the total number of books authored by him to 20. The latest release is expected to draw attention from readers, scholars and lovers of contemporary Nigerian literature.

Some of his previously published titles include Nigeria & the Search For Leadership, IROKO, Nigeria 2007 Memo To My Igbo Brethren, IMO Frontiers In Democratic Politics, Democracy By Military Tank, No Trace of Zakki, and Igbo Language and Culture.

Other notable works credited to the author are We Can’t All Be Wrong, Arthur: An Eye Witness, Ogbanje Currency, Rebel Cattle, The Last Order, From Governorship Transitions Leadership Lessons, Another Angle To A Big Story, The Word of God As Your Law, Dr Basil Nnanna Nkegbu, and Church Money Power.
