A senatorial aspirant in Abia state under the All Progressive Congress ( APC), Dr Philips Nto has declared that his ambition is to use the position to uplift the hopeless youths of Abia North.
He also expressed optimism of defeating the current occupant of the seat, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, in a fair and free primary.
Speaking at a radio programme in Umuahia, Dr. Philips Nto described himself as a bridge between the old and the youth and the rich and the poor.
He said he would leverage that pole position of experience to sponsor bills aimed at wealth creation and wealth distribution.
The former Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning in Abia State said the level of unemployment and poverty was so frightening that the Senate needed people of his pedigree to recalibrate national policy.
According to him ,most people in the Senate have not tasted unemployment and poverty and, therefore, are not in a position to understand what Nigerian youths are passing through.
” When I graduated, I carried files for many years before getting a job in the university. I have tasted poverty, and I am still struggling to cross over. But how many of our senators understand what poverty means? You can not address a problem that you are insulated from? ,he submitted
He announced that he accepted to run for the Senate after much pressure from many groups because he wants to better the lot of the constituents,especially the youths and the poor.
On the possibility of defeating Orji Uzor Kalu, the former Provost of Abia State College of Education, Technical, Arochukwu, said his strength lies with God and the people.
Said he,” David used just a sling and stone to defeat Goliat backed by intimidating armoury. Although people normally say we shouldn’t bring God into politics, I believe that God is with me”
He was optimistic that he would emerge victorious both in the primary and main elections given his background and experience.
He called on all the youths in Abia North to rally round him to ensure that a new force under him takes office as the representative of the zone in the Senate by 2027
