Lawmaker Moves To Save Nworie River,As Imo Assembly Constitute Committee To Curtail Illegal Sand Mining

In furtherance of his commitment to protect legacy projects of the Rochas Okorocha administration in Owerri municipal, the member representing Owerri municipal state constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Lugard Osuji sponsored a motion on the floor of the House calling for no further mining at Nworie river and its environ

Osuji expressed dismay with the depth of sand mining activities ongoing at the stretch between the 1st and 2nd inland bridges which constitute a threat to structures of the said bridges as a result makes it dangerous for pedestrians plying them and pose serious erosion threats around the area.

Members of the House threw their weight in support of the motion noting that if the level of sand mining at Nworie river is not checked, it may affect other structures close to it.

The Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Acho Ihim ruled in support of the motion and constituted a three man committee headed by Hon. Lugard Osuji as Chairman, Hon.Lawan Duruju and Hon. Ngozi Obiefule as members to invite all relevant agencies in charge of mining for an interactive session on Wednesday, 28th February, 2018.
