Ibe Kachiukwu, Minister of State For Petroluem Reosurces, has vowed to resign if Nigeria continues to import fuel by 2019.
The Minister made the declaration in an interview with the BBC World Service Programme, Hardtalk anchored by Stephen Sackur.
He however promised to deliver on the completion of the refineries, adding that he is fully committed to delivering a future for oil in Nigeria.
As part of efforts to reduce Nigeria’s over reliance on oil, the Minister said the Federal Government plans to diversify into agriculture and other sources of revenue including tourism.
He said 2019 has been set as the target time when the country was going to be self reliant in terms of refining petroleum.
He said he has delivered on all his promises, stating that he made the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, a profit making organization
