The Owerri Mayorial Affairs has described the ongoing media attacks on the agency as a ploy to blackmail them to abandon the actualization of the urban renewal policy of governor Rochas Okorocha.
Reacting on an article published in Big Truth newspaper and on the Social media on Friday, the Head of administration of Owerri mayoral, Mr. Okonkwo Ndubueze maintained that it is a sponsored attack and calculated attempt to discredit the good works of the mayor, Hon. Ndidi Ihemeadding that all the allegation does not exist.
Okonkwo pointed out that the main mandate of the mayoral traffic taskforce team is to stop people from driving against traffic loading and offloading at the wrong places.
According to him; “Our major aim is to stop people from applying one way, off loading and loading at the wrong places. You know that most people like driving against the traffic in Owerri which is very wrong and dangerous.”
He further noted; “It is wrong for anybody to say that the mayoral traffic taskforce team engages on unlawful activities, they don’t extort money from road users. Besides, the mayorial affairs is not a revenue driving outfit. Our primary aim is to enlighten the public on what to do and what not to do while driving and to ensure that the public obey the ongoing urban renewal policy of the governor.”
Okonkwo who noted that Owerri mayoral Affairs will not join issues with Mr. Modestus Nwamkpa over his allegation, however insisted that no amount of blackmail will stop them from implementing the urban renewal policy of the governor.
He said; “For the sake of keeping the records straight, Owerri mayorial taskforce teams have no hand in the accident that happened at Port Harcourt road by House of Assembly junction between trailer and keke.
The general public knows the truth, so far Mr Modestus Nwamkpa to say otherwise means that he is not saying the truth. Our major mandate is to make the route free traffic, noting that the write up is false and a sponsored attack on the mayor. Hon. Ndidi Iheme cannot be distracted by cooked up stories.
He further described the current mayor of Owerri as a woman with great ideas and determined to serve the people.
“The current mayor of Owerri, Hon. Ndidi Iheme is very proactive in her mayoral responsibilities, since she took over, Owerri mayoral has taken a new shape she has introduced things that will complement the efforts of the governor.” Okonkwo stressed
