There are strong indications that the planned ban on Keke operators in Imo State may have been shelved to December 1st.
Reports said at the 57th Independence day anniversary held at the Heros Square, Owerri, Sunday, keke operators operating under the aegis of Imo Pilot blocked the State Governor, Rochas Okorocha with their tricycles and knelt down appealing to him to reverse the ban on Keke operators. In the process, he ordered his driver to stop and after listening to their plea he announced the extension of the ban to December.
The overjoyous Keke Riders rejoice the announcement.
Governor Okorocha had earlier announced the ban on Keke operators last month but later shelved the ban. The ban is in line with the State Government Urban Renewal Programme which has led to the expansion of roads in Owerri metropolis.
As part of measures to cushion the effect of the proposed ban on Keke riders, the State Government last week rolled out taxi cabs known as “Taximo” that will ply major streets and roads in Owerri metropolis.
