Dare devil kidnappers stormed the St. Camillus Catholic Chaplaincy of the Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) Orlu and abducted an engineer who came to worship in the church Sunday morning.
They truncated the mass service just as the presiding priest was delivering the homily and sent worshippers scampering for safety.
An eye witness said that the engineer was on his way to the mass for the feast of Christ the King in a black Toyota car said to belong to his friend when the hoodlums tried to intercept him.
They gave him a hot chase and finally cornered him at the church premises where he could no longer escape.
The gangsters made for the Toyota, according to sources, but could not start it, and therefore resorted to their get-away car and tried to force their victim into the booth which also could not open.
Our reporter learnt that the well armed men drove away with their victim inside their car and to an unknown destination.
The congregation, however, reassembled after the shock and the service continued to the end.
Efforts to reach the police for comments proved abortive.
