Mr.Kenneth Ikechukwu Ojiri is a young politician who breezed into the political landscape of Imo State in 2015.
Not so much was known about him aside his Ken Ojiri Foundation which rendered help to the less privileged in the society. Many beneficiaries of the benevolence of his Foundation attested to its functionality.
Ken later joined politics and declared to aspire for the office of the Governor of the State in 2014. He was rated a greenhorn politician until he showed some considerable level of seriousness in the governorship contest through fine bill boards and colourful adverts with unique selling messages that caught the appeal of the masses.
He had said his desire to run for the office of the Governor was to give Imo State a local economy that will transform the State by creating employment opportunities for millions of jobless youths.
He brought some razzmatazz in the contest which was attributed to the relentless effort of a solid media team that sold him to the Imo electorate. His ambition was however sadly plagued by organizational deficiency managed by those never understood the dynamics of power play in the State.
Ojiri’s biggest hurdle to cross then was the PDP Governorship Primary- a party that had the good, the bad and ugly in its fold. He later failed at the Primary election losing to Hon.Emeka Ihedioha, then Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives who emerged the eventual winner of the Imo PDP governorship primary, a contest adjudged to be fraudulent.
He crossed over to the Accord Party where he effortlessly emerged the Accord Party governorship candidate for Imo State. He took part in the polls but lost. He was said to have resisted the urge to cross over to the All Progressive Congress, APC thereafter.
Since then, not much has been heard from the Owerri North born politician aside periodic press statements where he condemned some policies of the Rochas Okorocha administration.
Pundits wonder if Ojiri’s first baptism of fire in politics was too hot for him to handle which made him to recoil to his political shell.
Another school of thought however say he is waiting and studying the political terrain carefully before taking a leap as a precaution to avoid past political mistakes. Only time will tell.
