Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu is an enigma. This he proved last Saturday, December 2, 2017 at his hometown of Iho, Ikeduru LGA of Imo State when who is who in the country converged for a grand reception in his honour by his kinsmen.
Among those present at the event was Senate President, Bukola Saraki, over twenty senators, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, former Imo State Governors, Achike Udenwa and Ikedi Ohakim, PDP chieftain, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and many others.
Anyanwu’s meteoric rise to political stardom began when he was elected Chairman of Ikeduru Local Government Area where he served for two terms. He can be described as a huge benefactor of the return of democracy in Nigeria since 1999 having held public offices since then till now.
He climbed to the Imo State House of Assembly representing his people where he also made remarkable impact before wining election into the National Assembly as senator representing Owerri zone.
The Imo State born politician has an enviable record of having not lost any elective position he has aspired for. Close watchers of political developments in Imo State consider it a rare feat for any politician living or dead in Nigeria! He has equaled the record set by Senator David Mark who has been in the senate since 1999 and known not have lost any election to the senate.
Some attribute Senator Anyanwu’s rise to stardom to the benevolence to Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, adjudged to be his political godfather. This assumption the Senator has not disproved or dispelled as he has not hidden his undiluted loyalty to the Attah Chief. If this is the case, then Sam Daddy understands the principle of loyalty in politics and its attendant reward that comes with it.
Aside paying the price of loyalty, Sam Daddy commands tremendous followership across Owerri zone. With a huge experience in politics and having proved his mettle as a first time senator at the National Assembly he has become the rave of the moment with many suggesting that he takes a shot at the Imo State governorship contest in 2019. He has also become an influential senator in the senate heading a powerful committee such as Ethics and Privileges.
His representation of the people of Owerri zone at the Red Chambers has been marked with significant achievements.He has also provided employment to thousands of youths in the zone and introduced several Empowerment programmes which has attracted applause and commendation from all and sundry.
On the floor of the House, it will take the undiscerning to know he is not a “new chap” in the senate, a congregation of Nigeria’s finest encapsulated in the legislative arm of government. He has contributed so much during House debates and iniatied several Bills the most popular being the request for the establishment of South East Development Commission.
Indeed, Senator Anyanwu represents the bunch of rare breed politicians in Imo politics and a man of the future if only he maintains his political pace.
