The dust is yet to settle over the Occupy Imo Rally which was aborted by the Imo State Police Command on Monday in Owerri. The Police had dispersed the protesters saying the protest could not hold at a time the yuletide is approaching.

Imo State Commissioner of Information, Nnamdi Obiareri had on Tuesday lambasted the opposition, saying morally debased and politically displaced persons cannot occupy Imo State.

He said “Unfortunately, this peaceful disposition of Imo State Government is being abused by a few disgruntled individuals who are hell bent on having it their own way contrary to the demands of democracy that it is the place of majority to have their way while the minority will have their say.

“Ndi Imo and Members of the public are advised to continue to ignore these irritants and their recent sham campaign of “Occupy Imo”.

In reaction to the Commissioner’s comments, an opposition leader and a Chieftain of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Hon, Uche Onyeagocha challenged the Commissioner to a debate.

In a post on the social media,Onyeagocha who featured on a radio programme claimed he called the Commissioner after the programme and the radio station seeking for a debate.

He also said he has paid for half of the cost to the radio station for a debate.

The Commissioner is yet to respond.
