Some militants who claimed to be loyal to slain militant Don Wayne on Monday, 5th February, 2017 surrendered their arms and weapons in Imo State.
The repentant militants are made up of three groups.
The leaders of each of the militant groups who gave up their weapons in their separate speeches appealed to Imolites, the security agencies and the people of the oil region in Imo State to forgive them of their roles in pipe line vandalism.
The militant leaders also confessed to have had close link to the late notorious Militant leader, Don Wayne who was killed in January 2018.
They also blamed oil companies operating in their areas of negligence and appealed to them to provide more jobs for Niger Delta youths and increase their contributions to develop the area that has given them so much returns on investment.
Some of the Generals of the militant groups also alleged that they were employed to snatch ballot boxes for one of the political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP during the 2015 election. They pledged to now support the All Progressive Congress, APC.
In his remarks, Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha praised the repentant youths for surrendering their arms and assured them of government support.
He recalled that he initiated the amnesty program in Imo State about 2 years ago to eradicate terror and every form of restiveness from Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta which was part of his campaign promises to the people and assured he would forward their case to the Federal Government .
Gov. Okorocha stated that terror is gradually leaving the oil region and charged the repentant youths to be agents of change while assuring them of government support and protection.
