The newly elected Chairman of the National League of Veteran Journalists of Nigeria, Imo State Chapter, Nze Louis Onwunali, has promised to take the league to greater heights and global recognition.

In his acceptance speech after his election at a meeting of the league in Owerri, Nze Onwunali regretted that the league had, for some time lagged behind in its advisory role for younger journalists and in mediating in crises that sometimes engulfed journalists’ unions in the state.

According to him, the new executive will change all that while it would also see that The Veteran Mail, a newspaper established by the league, was better produced than any other in content and form.

Onwunali, who is widely experienced in the profession, said that the new executive would endeavour to bring into the fold other seasoned veteran journalists around while also extending hands of fellowship to newspapers in the state.

The new chairman expressed concern over the brown envelop syndrome and said that the league would help in making sure that ethics are observed in journalism practice in the state.

In expressing profound gratitude to the members for the confidence reposed on him, he also thanked the former chairman, Sir Nati Iwuagwu, for his efforts in sustaining the league so far.

In the election that followed a unanimous resolution to dissolve the old executive that Chief Tony Ibeh was picked as Vice Chairman Sir Dann Jacobs as secretary, Mr. Rich Onyemerem, Financial Secretary/Treasurer, Mr. Richard Odu Publicity Secretary and Prince Ifeanyi Ukeje, Welfare Officer.
