A confirmed covid 19 case of an infected member of the Imo State House of Assembly and plans to fumigate the Assembly complex are two major reasons the State Covid 19 Prevention Task Force led by Prof Maurice Iwu, choose to shut down the complex.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, Prof Iwu also announced the death of a woman who died of coronavirus after giving birth to a set of twins at an undisclosed hospital in Owerri.

The death of the woman brings the number to two the number deaths traced to covid 19 in Imo State.

He said at the moment, samples of 26 legislators in the complex have been collected for tests, while the infected lawmaker and his wife have gone into isolation.

Prof Iwu gave a breakdown of those who have gone for test of the virus in the State. According to him, a total of 760 samples have been tested with 135 testing positive to the virus, while there are 92 active cases and 43 persons discharged.

He said four persons are at the Federal Medical Centre Isolation Centre, another four at WODDI centre and others undergoing treatment at other isolation centres
