Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS, and relevant stakeholders have expressed commitment to implement the tenets of the NCS Act 2019, which is geared towards improving the conditions of the Service.
This formed part of deliberations at a one day seminar with the theme “Training On Effective Implementation of Non Custodial Measures for State and Zonal Officers” held at Concorde Hotel, Owerri.
The Comptroller General, NCS, Ja’Afaru Ahmed, said the services of the NCS, have remarkably improved since the NCS Act 2019 was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said the Act has also brought a new norm in the Nigeria Correctional Service, aimed at bringing justice to those who should not be in the custody of the NCS.
The Comptroller represented by the Comptroller, Planing, Research and Statistics, NCS, Abuja, Amos Kupan, said the Act has also brought desired changes in the Service.
In her remarks, the Executive Director, Prisons Rehabilitation and Welfare Action, PROWA, Uju Agomuoh, said the new custodial measures will require motivation and collaborative efforts to realize the overall intent of the Act.
While commending President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the Act, Mrs Agonmuoh also harped on the need for the Act to be effectively implemented.
Representatives of the Nigeria Correctional Service from various commands such as Enugu, Delta, Kogi, Anambra, Abia, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa and Ebonyi States participated at the seminar.
