Senator Samuel Anyanwu, on New Year day, hosted Imo state based newspaper publishers and editors, where he bared his mind on ways of improving the media industry in the state.

Senator Anyanwu told the publishers in the state to remain united as a group, imploring the editors to shun any act capable of bringing mockery to the noble profession.

In a statement signed by his media adviser, Ikenna Onuoha, the senator made the appeal when he hosted publishers and editors in the state at his Amaimo, Ikeduru LGA country home.

The meeting tagged, “A Crossover With My People”, Senator Anyanwu commended the newspaper owners and their Editors for their dexterity in defeating all challenges in 2020 occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic, expressing happiness that the outbreak did not deter them from publishing when their counterparts in other states shut down for lack of funds.

He called on government to assist journalists in the state with palliatives and bailouts to enable them thrive, describing them as major stakeholders in the Imo project.

“It is wrong for government to abandon Journalists in the state who have played major role in sustaining the peace and unity of the state. Any attempt to shortchange them or intimidate them is not only wicked and murderous but a designed tactics that would be highly resisted. I don’t say this to impress you or to answer a good man, but it is sincerely from my heart. I beseech you today not to allow selfish and wicked politicians to use you to destroy our state”. He averred.

According to him, the idea of abandoning Publishers, Editors and other Journalists by the state government was the worst treatment ever given to a people, wondering why they were treated with levity here when Media professionals were taken care of in many advanced countries.

Senator Anyanwu therefore assured them of his sincere commitment to continue to provide them with palliatives that would sustain their publishing business in the market.
