The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State has been described as a dying lizard, struggling for survival and afraid of the overwhelming acceptance of the APC Imo East Senatorial candidate, Prince Alex Mbata.
Owerri Zone Movement For Good Governance OZMGG,, in a statement in Owerri on Sunday and signed by its Chairman, Elvis Iwuala and Secretary, John Igwe, took a swipe at the opposition party for calling for the arrest of Prince Mbata
The PDP had in a statement on Saturday, signed by its publicity Secretary, Collins Opuruzor called for the arrest of Mbata over alleged contract scam when the latter was Pro Chancellor of IMSU, Owerri.
Rising in defence of Mbata, the OZMGG, said the PDP has lost focus, and is losing sleep over the stark reality that Mbata will defeat its candidate and ride to victory in the forthcoming Owerri zone senatorial election.
“The PDP in Imo State has diminished in stature and size, a fact which it has exemplified by losing sleep over the candidature of Prince Mbata, after it effortlessly failed to blackmail the performing Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma.
“The PDP by its recent statement on Mbata has shown that it is on the verge of extinction in the State, as evident in it’s dwindling popularity across the State.
“We will not join issues with a clueless party and its confused spokesman, Mr Collins Opurozor. We will also not reduce ourselves to exchange words with a drowning party which parades in their midst, a senatorial candidate with a notorious record of chewing election results and political bandits, including those whose stolen mandate were reversed by the courts.
“The call for Mbata’s arrest by a dying lizard like PDP, is a another proof that it has run out of steam and ideas and intimidated by the soaring profile of the Uzodimma administration and Prince Alex Mbata.
“It is important to state that its Publicity Secretary, Mr Collins Opuruozor, is a devil’s advocate, who lacks accurate information on Mbata’s role when he was pro Chancellor of the Imo State University.
“Mr. Opuruozor is simply on a mission to paint an innocent man in bad light before the public. He should be reminded that the false narratives handed to him will end up consuming him.
“We would refrain from joining issues with Mr. Opuruozor, who even before his assumption as Imo PDP Publicity Secretary had sworn to bring Prince Mbata down in a bid to satisfy his pay masters. We wonder if Mr. Opuruzor is balanced mentally because he seems not to understand that the White Paper report on IMSU, never indicted Prince Mbata.
“Prince Alex Mbata, outside the realm of politics, is a good man, a philanthropist and the largest investor in human development in Owerri zone and Imo State.He has built roads with his personal funds, empowered men, women and youths in Owerrri zone, and discharged himself creditably when he was Pro Chancellor of Imo State University, IMSU, Owerri.
“It is on record that those who leveled allegations against him during his tenure as IMSU Pro Chancellor have recanted their actions and apologized to him.
“The likes of Mr Opuruzor and his co- political bandits in the PDP are living in a fools paradise and no amount of falsehood and propaganda against Mbata from their coven of lies, will discourage the good people of Owerri zone from giving Mbata their mandate come February 2023” part of the statement stated.
