The Imo State government, on Tuesday, accused a former governor of Imo State and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP of spreading fake news in the social media, accusing Governor Hope Uzodimma of budgeting N10bn to free embattled DCP Abba Kyari.

Declan Emelumba, State Commissioner for Information and Strategy in a statement in Owerri, described the news as “fake,  lame, incoherent, illogical and propaganda concocted by the Lucifer infested social media outfit of a chieftain of the PDP and former governor of the state to shoot down the popularity of the Governor”

Emelumba accused the former Governor of wanting to divert attention from “his irredeemably damaged image with the fake Abba Kyari story and from the blacklash of his saboteur comments against Ndi Igbo”

According to the Commissioner, he accused the PDP of planting in the past a similar fake news that Uzodimma wanted to rename the Imo State University after the late Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.

He noted that the Uzodimma administration was a product of the law and could not have declared that Abba Kyari is innocent of the charges when such responsibility belongs exclusively to the judiciary.

According to him, the poorly written story exposed the desperation of its amateur authors because it failed to take cognizance of the fact Uzodimma is an unrepentant respecter of the rule of law and the integrity and independence of the judiciary

“It is also ridiculous to impute that the governor was budgeting N10b for the release of Abba Kyari when everyone knows how prudent and accountable His Excellency is with the resources of the state”, Emelumba said.
