Imo State Commissioner For Trade and Investment, Mr. Simon Ebegbulem and Member Representing Okigwe South Federal Constituency, Hon Chike Okafor, have escaped death by the whiskers after being attacked by armed gunmen.

The attacks came barely 48 hours to the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections across the country.

Also attacked include the Managing Director, Imo State Waste Management Agency, Kelechi Emeakaraoha.

The trio were attacked on their way back to Owerri after attending a rally of the All Progressives Congress, APC held Umuawuchi village, the hometown of the APC Ihitte Uboma State Assembly candidate, Chike Olemgbe, The Sun reports.

It was learnt that the APC Chieftains were ambushed at Alike, a remote village close to Okata community in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area, at about 6.30pm on Thursday, February 23, 2022.

They reportedly fired gunshots on the vehicles of the Commissioner and the convoy of Hon Chike Okafor.

While the vehicles were riddled with bullets, the trio all managed to escape.
