Emeka Ihedioha, a former governor of Imo State, his deputy, Gerald Irona, and spokesman of Conference of United Nigeria Political Parties, CUPP, Ikenga Ugochinyere, will honour an invitation from the State Police Command next week Tuesday.
The Imo State Police Command had invited the trio, alongside the State Chairman of the leading opposition party, Engr Charles Ugwu.
Police sources say the Command received a letter from the former governor and two others, pledging to honour the invitation next Tuesday, three days after the State House of Assembly elections.
In a letter to the PDP Chairman and signed by the D.C.P Ukachu Opara,a Deputy Commissioner of Police (Admin) for the State Commissioner of Police, Ihedioha and others were invited in line with the Command’s ongoing investigation into cases of kidnapping, arson and murder.
One of the invitees, a former deputy governor, Gerald Irona, is in detention on the Order of an Owerri Magistrate Court.
Reacting to the invitation, the PDP in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Collins Opuruozor and made available to INNONEWS, the opposition party demanded the removal of the State Commissioner of Police.
The party called on “the Inspector General of Police to quickly step into this matter to create a more responsible and responsive Police Command in Imo State by overhauling the highly politicized police structure in the State and remove the current Commissioner of Police.
“This will rekindle faith in the fairness and credibility of the Police and it’s capacity to secure Imo people” part of the statement read
