* Some Candidates Unsure Of Their Aspirations*
Ahead of the November 11, 2023 Imo State governorship election, a socio political group, Imo Awareness Coalition, IAC, has expressed worry how candidates in the contest have resorted to mudslinging rather than engage in issues driven debates.
The IAC, in a statement in Owerri and signed by its President, Emmanuel Okwu, said “some of the candidates have either gone to sleep or chosen to mudslinging against each other, rather than market their aspiration to the people of Imo State”
“Four months to a crucial election, such as Imo governorship election, there is no serious discourse among the candidates on how to salvage Imo State from years of ruination.
“We rather see ‘Run Him Down’ brand of campaign adopted by some of the key candidates which is an archaic style of politicking which adds no value to the guber contest at all.
“The influx of recycled politicians in the contest can easily be attributed for this anomaly.
“This has exposed their lack of grasp of the issues plaguing the State and we are compelled to ask how prepared are they for the onerous task of governing a complex State such as Imo” part of the statement stated
The IAC noted that the candidates and their Running Mates have thus far not ignited the expected spark and intensity in the contest.
“What we have seen is a sloppy race because some of the candidates are so unsure of their convictions and aspirations.
“Either they are afraid of the incumbent or they have developed an inferior complex even before the race began” the IAC stated.
The group urged the candidates, particularly those of the major political parties to demonstrate more commitment to their cause, which would enable Imo voters make informed choices during the elections.
“We resist the urge to say we don’t have the best set of quality candidates in the forthcoming 2023 Imo guber polls.
“However, they must come forward and convince Imolites on why they should be given the mantle of leadership of the State.
“What we have seen in the past few months to the election is not inspiring. We need robust debates and candidates should come forward with their policies and blueprint they have for the good people of Imo State” the statement concluded.
