The Owerri Catholic Archdiocese says it is not aware of plans to construct a flyover in front of Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri.
News had spread on the social media that the Catholic Bishop of Owerri, His Lordship Bishop Lucius Ugorji, has given approval to the construction of a multi dimensional flyover at Assumpta Cathedral Roundabout after three years of delay.
However, in its reaction, the Catholic Church, in a statement in Owerri, signed by Rev Fr. Dr. Patrick Mbarah, Archdiocesan Chancellor/Secretary, said the Archbishop Of Owerri, is not aware of the purported construction of the fly over at Assumpta
The statement made available to this newspaper reads
“Our attention has been drawn to the fake news making rounds in the social media of the purported new designed Flyover to be constructed in front of Maria Assumpta Cathedral Owerri.
“The news further claims that the Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji has accented to this project.
“I hereby state categorically, that His Grace, Most Rev.Lucioius Iwejuru Ugorji, since his inception of office as the Archbishop of Owerri last year June, has never discussed with anyone on the said project nor approved any of such construction” the statement concluded.
