Cultists Overrun Awka

by admin

As cult-related killings increase in the city, it is not the best of times for inhabitants of Awka, the capital of Anambra State.

To the extent of hobbling the city’s expanding nightlife, this has also become a subject of worry for stakeholders and inhabitants.

Young individuals have been slaughtered in Awka recently, and the majority of those killed have also been recognized as cultists.

Cult group membership in the city is reportedly rising.

Apart from undergraduate students, Mr. Festus Anumihe, an Awka native, claimed that tricycle riders, bus drivers, idle youths, and other artisans are also now members of various cult groups.

The majority of the cultists in Awka are these unschooled boys, according to Mr.Anumibe

“It is not even the school undergraduates that are doing more of the cult thing, it is the unschooled ones.

“It is all these tricycle riders, shuttle bus drivers and other artisans, who are members of one cult of the other

“They see it that being a member of a cult has a status symbol and make you look like a big boy.

“Most times, they quarrel and kill each other over loading pits and collection of toll”he said.

In recent times, there have been several cult related killings in the State capital, Awka, many going unreported.

The Anambra State Police Command, has however warned cultists in the city to desist from their nefarious activities.

Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Aderemi Adeoye, vowed to arrest all the cultists in the State capital, stating that the Command has launched a new operation, aimed at ensuring that all the cultists in the State are arrested.

While expressing worry over the high level of cult activities in the city, he promised to restore sanity in the city
