An official of the Supreme Court has said election petition documents at the Supreme Court, Abuja were not gutted by fire on Monday.
Fire had engulfed the Supreme Court building, which was put out by the police and firefighters.
In a statement about the fire incident, the Director of Press and Information of the Supreme Court, Dr. Festus Akande, said only one chamber of the Supreme Court was affected by the fire, which was eventually doused.
He said what was destroyed in the chamber “were books, stationery, and other computer gadgets. The books are replaceable because we have an e-library.
“We have a soft copy of the books and also a hard copy, which can be procured and supplied to the chamber. So it has nothing to do with the presidential election petition, as people are saying outside. Such issues as presidential election matters are not discussed in the chamber but inside the court, he said.
Recall that presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Labour Party, LP, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, filed an appeal at the Supreme Court last week to challenge the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, which affirmed the victory of Bola Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.
