The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Action Peoples Party’s case against Governor Hope Uzodimma’s eligibility before the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Imo State.
The apex court rescheduled the hearing to December 5, 2023, which is after Uzodimma’s current term would have ended and a new election conducted.
The PDP and APP had sought the removal of Uzodimma as governor, invoking a 2019 judgment that disqualified Uche Nwosu from the Imo governorship election on grounds of double nomination.
They argued that the APC, which also nominated Nwosu, could not have simultaneously nominated Uzodimma.
The PDP requested the Supreme Court to declare its candidate, Emeka Ihedioha, the winner of the election since the APC was precluded from sponsoring two candidates in the governorship race.
This case has been pending for over three years.
