PDP, LP Petitions Remain Active, As Four Parties Lose At Imo Guber Election Petition Tribunal

by admin

In the aftermath of the Imo gubernatorial election held on November 11, 2023, the petitions lodged by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) at the Imo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal remain the two active cases under review at the tribunal.

Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the PDP and Senator Athan Achonu of the LP, gubernatorial candidates of the two political parties, had filed petitions seeking to challenge the validity of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as the winner of the November 11, 2023, Imo gubernatorial election.

Recent inquiries by this newspaper revealed that similar petitions submitted by the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and the Hope Democratic Party have been dismissed by the tribunal. These petitions, challenging the election results, have been struck down, leaving only the PDP and LP petitions standing at the moment.

As the legal proceedings continue, further details regarding the status and progress of these petitions will be provided in due course.
